Jennifer and Nick began working together in 2022 and quickly discovered a shared passion for helping families navigate some of life’s most challenging moments. What started as a professional collaboration soon grew into a genuine friendship, built on trust, empathy, and a shared vision for what family law could be. Over the years, countless conversations about their careers naturally expanded into conversations about the future of family law itself—and how it could better serve real people with real lives.

Together, Jennifer and Nick envisioned a firm that combines fierce, skilled advocacy with compassion and humanity. They believe clients deserve more than legal expertise; they deserve to feel heard, respected, and supported—no matter their background or circumstances. Recognizing that traditional family law practices often fall short of reflecting the realities clients face, they set out to create something different. K+S Family Law Group was founded on the belief that effective legal representation and kindness are not mutually exclusive. With a focus on understanding each client’s unique story, Jennifer and Nick strive to bring the law closer to lived experience—helping clients move forward with confidence, dignity, and hope. This firm was built to leave outdated approaches behind and to create a brighter, more compassionate future for the families it serves.

Jennifer Knies

Founding Partner

Jennifer Knies is a highly-experienced family law attorney in the Greater Denver Area with thousands of hours of trial experience, and has worked extensively in traditional divorce representation and litigation as well as divorce mediation, which offers a lower-conflict and lower-cost solution for divorcing couples. She has trained and practiced extensively in all areas of domestic relations law.

Jennifer is a retired US Army JAG Officer and combat veteran. Jennifer is a practicing family law attorney, a certified Child and Family Investigator (CFI), Parenting Coordinator and Decision Maker (PCDM) and Child’s Legal Representative (CLR).

Jennifer has over fourteen years of experience as an Army JAG. She is a recognized expert in the areas of sexual assault and crimes against children. Jennifer possesses an in-depth knowledge of military law, as well as a unique understanding of the challenges military members and their families face during military divorce and parenting disputes. She has litigated hundreds of criminal cases and has years of experience in dealing with military commanders on behalf of service members.

Jennifer is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. She also earned a Master of Laws in Criminal Law from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School.

Jennifer is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, El Paso County Bar Association, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Colorado Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Association for Conflict Resolution and the Ben S. Wendelken American Inn of Court.

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys time with her five children and time with her two dogs. She loves skiing, yoga, biking, cooking, and traveling.

Nick Sung

Founding Partner

Nick Sung is passionate about helping families navigate the complex issues that they are experiencing in and out of court. Nick takes a wholistic approach when practicing family law and understands that that the legal issues that his clients go through have very real impacts on his clients’ lives. This approach helps Nick get great results in and out of the court room.

Nick is based out of our Douglas County office located in Castle Rock, but has extensive experience in courts all throughout Colorado from as high north as Jackson County to as far south as Pueblo county, and everywhere in between. Nick goes where his clients need him.

No case is too complicated for Nick to tackle. He is known for taking cases that are considered by many to be niche areas of family law – such as international abduction, third party allocation of parental rights, stepparent adoption and termination, etc. Nick is also highly experienced in taking cases involving high assets, reserved stock units, and property located outside of Colorado. One of Nick’s happiest moments was when he was able to reunite a child with his Father that had been abducted from the United States to Mexico. In order to achieve this result, Nick had to tackle the issue with courts in Colorado and Mexico, as well as work with an international agency called the Hague.

Nick is a Colorado and Douglas County native and was born and raised in Parker, Colorado. In fact, his parents moved to Parker when Main Street was still a dirt road. Nick graduated from Chaparral High School and went on to attend both Colorado State University and University of Colorado at Boulder in which he a received a bachelor’s degree in political science and a certificate in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender studies. From there, Nick attended law school at Roger Williams University located in Bristol, Rhode Island. While in law school, Nick helped victims of domestic violence obtain protection orders against their abusers. Nick serves on the board of trustees for the Colorado Bar Foundation – which has the purpose of promoting the advancement of jurisprudence and the administration of justice throughout Colorado.

When Nick isn’t working, you can find him in the mountains, volunteering, and or trying new recipes with friends.

Aleksandra Bristow

Paralegal

Aleksandra is Attorney Sung’s paralegal and takes pride in being detail-oriented, organized, and empathetic to each client’s individual needs.

Her path to the legal field was sharpened by her previous career in corporate commercial real estate, where she managed office space and worked closely with executive clients, including judges and attorneys. Aleksandra earned her master’s degree in psychology in Eastern Europe, a background that helps her balance empathy and understanding with her professional responsibilities. In 2022, she earned her Legal Technician certificate, further expanding her academic foundation and knowledge of the law. Aleksandra likes to spend her free time with her family and friends, soaking up the sunshine whenever she can, whether it be lounging by the pool, hiking or hosting friends.

Elizabeth Beck

Paralegal

Elizabeth Beck is sunshine embodied, and she is known for her work ethic, positive attitude, and professionalism. Liz has 10 years of experience as a criminal defense paralegal, a background in Firm Administration, and worked as a law clerk for almost two full years, which translates perfectly into her work as a paralegal. With her education from Pikes Peak State College, her Paralegal degree comes into play daily and she uses her knowledge, outside skills and thinking, and can-do attitude to keep cases moving smoothly and efficiently.

Liz loves to spend time with her partner and their four dogs outside of work, exploring nature and Colorado together.

Stephanie Steiner

Paralegal

Stephanie Steiner has more than 20 years of experience as a paralegal and is known for being an efficient and competent asset to her clients and team while treating each case with care and professionalism. She loves furthering her education, to include attending and participating in Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars and will soon be working towards getting her Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) certificate to further serve our community.

Stephanie spends her free time with her children, dogs, and loves to bowl with her family.

Ruth Stanley

Client Intake Coordinator

Ruth is from New Zealand and our resident Kiwi. Ruth is the first person most people interact with when they reach out to the office and additionally handles all consult coordination and setting of the initial appointments with our attorneys. Ruth is known for her compassionate demeanor and listening ear, giving each potential client her full attention and compassion.

Ruth spends her free time crafting, making high-quality bags out of recycled textiles and rugs, does beading work to create jewelry, and is known for her sewing skills. Ruth loves spending time with her growing family and outside.

Jessica Strong

Firm Administrator

Jes has been working at a Family Law Firm since she graduated high school, and has done everything from front desk to social media, to legal assistant to paralegal. Jes was a paralegal for the last 6 years and has made the transition to Firm Administration and has found a passion for the backend organization of a firm. She is passionate about family law and as a native, she has strong roots in the community.

Jes spends her free time with her family, painting, and spending time outside in nature. Jes is an avid reader, and averages reading 75 books a year even while chasing around a toddler.

Terumi Wayne

Law Clerk

Terumi Wayne is an experienced Law Clerk with several years of comprehensive legal support experience in domestic relations cases. A proud Colorado local, she returned from Des Moines, Iowa after receiving her J.D. from Drake Law School in 2025. She is currently seeking bar admission in Colorado.

As a first-generation immigrant, Terumi’s lived experience is the American Dream come true. Her stubborn dedication to achieving her goals is evident in both the quality of her work and persistence to succeed at any cost, and is a quality she hopes will carry over into her developing career in Family Law.

Outside of work, Terumi is personally involved in, and an ardent advocate for, destigmatizing mental health/neurodivergent experiences. She is also just as familiar and passionate about global LGBT+ topics. In her free time, she loves befriending local pigeons and learning new languages.
